Back in Time

Ali Berlin | February 27, 2010

Yesterday I had the honor of spending some time a client’s daughter to discuss her upcoming Bat Mitzvah. While I thought the meeting was for Rachel, I was the one who was brought to tears when I got home. Beyond the details, I was curious about how she was feeling right now. Rachel said she doesn’t know how she feels but she knows there is a lot happening.

I could relate and remember being her age. I sensed her desire to know herself and her place, to feel comfortable in a body that keeps changing, and navigating what feels completely normal while also surreal and mysterious. I continue to experience that moment in my life- only now I have the confidence, compassion and communication to describe what I couldn’t describe then. Well, sometimes I do- othertimes I’m speechless and shy, but loving that too.

Who were you at 12 or 13? What were you feeling, going through, curious about? What did you have the words or feelings for? What were you unable to say? We all have the power to go back in time and rediscover who we were in order to understand more about who we are now. Take a moment and check out your younger self.

All Love, Ali
